The Thames Wherry Trust

Oars! Oars!

The cry of the Thames watermen when plying for hire welcomes you to Richmond-upon-Thames, the home of our Thames wherry, Rose in June.

We were inspired to build Rose in June by the etching THAMES WHERRIES RICHMOND drawn and etched by the young artist E.W.Cooke in 1829.

We operate from the Richmond foreshore rowing on the River Thames and take part in public events and races. We take oars each Wednesday for a cruise upriver.  Our timings vary as we work the tides at Richmond.

Our wherry is available for hire for weddings, public events and film and TV work.

Please make contact at info@thameswherry.org if you would like to join us on the river.

What is a Thames Wherry?

Wherries along the tideway in London were water taxis operated by watermen. Read more about the history of Thames Wherries here
